Communiverse

Neurodiversity Affirming Speech Therapy for Children & Adults

Your child’s brain works differently and that’s not a problem to fix. We offer strengths-based speech therapy that respects how your child thinks, communicates, and experiences the world.

What Is Neurodiversity-Affirming Therapy?

Neurodiversity-affirming therapy starts from a different premise: that autistic people, individuals with ADHD, and others with neurological differences are not broken versions of a neurotypical standard. They are whole people with their own communication strengths, styles, and goals. Our role is to support — not redirect, suppress, or normalize communication.

At Communiverse, therapy is never one-size-fits-all. We begin with a comprehensive evaluation to understand your unique communication profile, then build a personalized plan around your goals. Caregivers are part of every session — because lasting progress happens beyond the therapy room too.

WHO WE HELP

We See Families Like Yours Every Day

Autistic Children and Teens

Therapy that honors how your child communicates  including non-speaking, minimally-speaking, and AAC users  without trying to make them appear neurotypical.

Neurodivergent Adults

Late-diagnosed adults, autistic adults, and adults with ADHD who want support navigating workplace communication, social settings, or self-advocacy.

Children with ADHD or Sensory Processing Differences

Support for people whose attention, sensory needs, or executive function affect how they communicate, follow directions, or connect with peers.

Families Navigating a New Diagnosis

We support the whole family, not just the child. If you have just received a diagnosis and don’t know where to start, we can help you understand what it means and what comes next.

OUR APPROACH

How We Work

Strengths-Based, Not Deficit-Focused

We start with what your child or family member can do and build from there. No deficits list. No normalizing. Just real goals that matter to you.

Caregivers Are Partners

We include caregivers in every session. Because skills built in therapy only stick when they’re practiced in real life — and you’re part of making that happen.

Your Goals, Your Timeline

Progress looks different for every person. We move at a pace that works for you and we measure success by what matters to your family, not a standardized checklist.

FAQs

Common Questions

It means we don't treat neurological difference as a disorder to be corrected. We work with your child's natural communication style, not against it. In practice, that looks like therapy that is play-based and child-led, that never asks a child to mask or suppress stimming, and that sets goals based on what the child and family actually need, not on making the child appear more neurotypical.

Yes. Neurodiversity-affirming speech therapy and ABA have different philosophical foundations. Our approach prioritizes the client's own communication goals, comfort, and self-expression. We do not use compliance-based methods or focus on eliminating behaviors that are not harmful. If your family has questions about how our approach compares, we're happy to talk through it.

No. You do not need a diagnosis to reach out or to schedule an evaluation. Many families come to us with a concern — not a diagnosis — and we help them get a clearer picture. If a diagnosis is recommended, we'll guide you through the next steps.

Yes. We work with non-speaking and minimally-speaking children, including AAC users. Our therapists have experience with a range of AAC systems and take a total communication approach — meaning we support every way your child communicates, not just spoken language.
